Wikipedia

If I need to tell you much about Wikipedia, you just plain haven't been doing your research. It's great. It's terrific. I bow at its altar. It is, in my not-so-humble opinion, the best way to possibly gain most sorts of information on this great world of ours? Why? Well, unlike, say, searching over at Google, you won't get lots of porn. Trust me, there are times when you don't want to get porn, and researching, say, the War of 1812 is one of those times. The articles are longer than those you'll find in your average print encyclopaedia, because the Wikipedians don't need to worry about paying for paper, and most of the really good articles are written by groups of people who know what they're talking about. And that brings me to what else makes Wikipedia so terrific...it's interactive. If you know a thing or two they don't, then edit it in! Bang! You're contributing to society, and it makes you a lot less dizzy than donating blood. I lean on Wikipedia in ways I'm too proud to admit here. It's terrif.

GodfatherMUSH

I list this more out of a perverse pride in my own work than out of any belief you'll actually want to visit the place. The machine that it's hosted on, you see...ahem...leaves something to be desired. The database is currently kept on my computer, where it's not open to the public but where I can work on it and keep it safe. The e-mail addresses don't work since the mail-server kaputzed in about January 2004. And as for connecting to the game, you have a better chance of finding Atlantis. But, let's face it, this seldom-updated webpage for a game doomed by mechanical difficulties on the part of my needing to get a free host for the bloody thing is an interesting life metaphor. And the fact that I fully intend to bring it back up once I get broadband and can host the game off my own computer makes it a really terrific resurrection story. At least, it will. It obviously doesn't yet. But it will.

Opera Software

Sick of Internet Explorer? Can't say I blame you. Starting to realize that archaic version of Netscape Navigator you're using isn't quite up to snuff? It was an inevitability, really, and this coming from a fan of old versions of Netscape. Using Mozilla Firebird? Well, I still think this is better, but hey, Firebird's got a lot going for it. Yes, it's Opera, the Scandanavian browser! It's neither free nor open source, which is about the worst that I have to say about it, but there is a free demo that includes some non-irritating advertising that you'll soon learn to get used to. Download the demo here, and then click on either the button or the link above when you want to actually buy it. Because, thanks to Opera's referral program, if you shell out the cash for this excellent browser (and let me assure you, it's worth every penny), I get a cut! Don't you want to support benmassey.ca? Of course you do. So buy Opera! From my links! Now! So I get to pocket some of your hard-earned money despite the fact that I've given you no service whatsoever! HA HA HA!
